I have begun working on the alterations. The waist has been taken in, and I have finished hemming the dress. The fabric needs to be hemmed twice to lay flat, so it took a bit longer than I initially expected. The next step is to add the first layer of colored fabric. This layer will be multiple strips of fabric attached at the waist, draped in the same shape as the hem of the white dress. I've started arranging it to see how I want to attach it, and I think the easiest way for me to get the drape and overlap the way I want is to attach them to a scrap fabric the length of the waistline, then attach the scrap fabric to the white dress.

For the top, I am attaching the V-neck top of the pink dress where the waist connects on the white dress. I think this will secure our actress a bit more than the white dress, and will eliminate the need for an undergarment. There are a few 1 inch wide strips of fabric that hang down in the back of the pink dress. I will be using these to make new straps.

The dress must have an open back for the wings FX to look correct. We also need to have markers to track the movement of where the wings would go. During our test shoot, we used small balls with blue tape as markers for where the wings should go. These balls were poked onto pieces of wire to help them stand up. Last week, I updated Joe Pasquale on the markers. He brought up that we need to have a method to ensure the markers are in the same spot every time we shoot. He brought up the idea of having some kind of template, maybe with cardboard. I like the template idea. I think on the first day of filming we should have a piece of cardboard and we can mark where we want the wings to go (on the cardboard) while it is measured up to the actress. Then, we can cut out small spots to mark through onto the actress' skin. Joe also was not a fan of the balls being used as markers. He thinks they should be something that is flat onto her skin, especially to capture the most accurate movement we can. I understand the point he's making, but the wings will be seen from almost every angle. The ball markers make it so they can be seen while she is sideways too. If we use something flat, we wouldn't be able to see those markers when she is sideways to the camera. I am relaying these messages to the team this week to get their thoughts on how we can make the markers more effective.
