This week, I refined the costume concept and added inspiration to our mood board for color, shape, and style. I am taking inspiration from 70's Gunne Sax dresses. One issue I have come across is that the fairy needs a light and airy costume, but due to working with greenscreen, we cannot use any sheer fabrics. I spent a lot of time researching types of fabric that can be used so that I know what to look for when shopping. Some fabrics that I am on the lookout for are lightweight satins, double layer gauze, linen, georgette, batiste, or chambray. I also might try to get some tulle that can be sewn onto the bodice to make it feel more airy without having to be concerned about the greenscreen key.
We also decided to scale our fairy down smaller than typical human size. Most of this will be done with the environment, but I am trying to find ways that the costume can assist in showing the scale of the fairy. One idea was to have a necklace with an acorn on it, or a hair accessory with some sort of plant or flower.

I worked on a color pallet of colors to shop for. The forest is going to be mostly wintery dark blues. I want the fairy to be contrasted since she brings spring to the forest. I took inspiration from drawings of golden, glowing fairies in a forest and color picked some yellow and oranges that encapsulated that warm feeling. I also have some more neutral colors because the fairy is meant to be newborn. I thought some light colored neutrals would be great as the main colors because it would feel like those are the clothes she naturally emerged in.

To the right I have a base concept drawn to take inspiration from while I shop. We are still figuring out what the plan for the actress' hair is. We want ruffles and an uneven hem. The dress also needs an open back so that the FX wings can be added without issue.
By the end of this week I should have the measurements and headshot of our actress. This will assist me with how much fabric to buy and what size of clothes to look for as a base.
