Collab-- Week 4

This week, we received more feedback from the mentors about our shot 1 lighting. The emissive material didn't cast as much light onto the environment as we hoped it would. We also showed two versions of our updated shot 1 lighting based on last week's feedback. We had version 1 stay darker for the duration of the shot to emphasize the ink colors and version 2 gets brighter to see the features of the printer more. The mentors preferred version 1.
Our main goal for this week is to have preliminary renders for a majority of the shots going into next week (5).
My updated To Do list is as follows:
Complete UVs for the printer and a few of the final shot objects
Apply Materials to the scene
Update shot 1 lighting/ ink emissive
Set up preliminary shot 2 lighting
generate designs for the final shot objects
Completing the printer UVs luckily went relatively smooth (Thank you, Riley for the spectacular model!). I was excited to apply the materials to the printer and see how they look on the actual object. I was happy when I applied them, and there weren't any major differences that needed to be addressed moving from the sphere test shader to the actual printer model. Since I was applying the materials in the file with shot 1 and 2, I moved directly to working on the lighting for these shots. My teammate, Yiqi, is FX artist for the fluid/particle simulation in shot 1 and 2, so she offered to look at the lighting feedback about the fluid while I began lighting shot 2. (See updated video at the bottom of this page)
Another great update this week-- and this is the important one, I finally got to implement AI into my workflow. I was able to work with Microsoft Copilot, which is powered by DALL-E3. I began generating ideas for some of the "printed" textures to go on the objects in the final shot. My conversation with Copilot is pictured below.
I was honestly surprised at how well Copilot took my instructions. I noticed early on that Copilot had a preference for the blue and orange color combination. I tried to give more guidance with the color choices to ensure I was getting a versatile range of designs to take inspiration from. Then, I noticed Copilot seemed eager to place these designs onto something, so I figured I'd test that out and see how the design changes. Interestingly enough, Copilot was able to keep the design on the water bottle and phone case relatively the same. Below are the images Copilot generated for me.
